to sit in silence may be one of the more challenging practices one can pursue. so many things in our lives cause distraction and pull us away from our true reality. physical and emotional discomfort, the past, the future, loneliness etc... in turn we reach for phones, television, food, medication ~ you get the idea. but how does this become harmful and why do we do it. pain and grief. pain and grief are the shadows to joy and love. it’s human nature to seek out joy and love however, nature teaches us there is a balance to all things. joy and love are no exception. distraction comes in and dilutes the pain but does not dissolve it. if left ignored over time it begins to rattle the cage, aka the body. i have tried to avoid these things and i have paid for it in body and mind. these things must be felt as deeply and wholly as their beloved counterparts. the hardships teach us, the pain reminds us and grief.... grief measures how deeply we care(d). these feelings can be brutal but we all feel them. they are not a punishment but a guide ~ learn from them, don’t run from them. they will not break you.
